Happy New Year! It’s that time again when we look back at our year of DIY and renovating – what we achieved and what we didn’t achieve and we set ourselves a whole list of DIY and renovation goals for the new year ahead. We actually did quite well with last year’s list, which you can read about here. I broke our goals up into the four quarters of the year, so I’m going to stick with that same method again this year.
Q1: Living Room
Soooo we didn’t achieve this goal last year, but it’s 100% getting done this year, in fact, it’s a priority and the first job we’ll be tackling this year. We have already made a start in the room and we’ve also purchased lime plaster and a gorgeous new BARGAIN fire surround for the next step of work to be done. This room has been unfinished for years and with a toddler now running around, I really want the room done. And it will be!
Q2: Garden & Allotment
The second part of the year will be all about the garden and the allotment. To be honest, there really isn’t *that* much to do in either area, so it’ll be a nice wind-down from working in the living room. The garden is almost fully finished, however, we need to sow some new grass seeds. And the allotment requires general maintenance more than anything – repairing the polytunnel, adding more bark, and potentially building a couple more beds.
Q3: Master Bedroom
The current master bedroom has been completely untouched since we moved in. The only change we’ve made to the room has been the new sash windows we installed a few years ago. In order to renovate this room, we’ll need to move everything to the attic (Originally, we planned to do the attic first, but that has now changed) and set up a makeshift bedroom up there.
The main jobs in this room are to remove all the wallpaper (which is also on the ceiling), patch the walls, and install new sockets throughout. But, I’m sure the job list will get longer and longer with the more we uncover.
Q4: Odd Jobs Only
I’m dedicating the whole of Q4 to the endlessly evolving ‘odd jobs’ list. We did REALLY well with the odd-job list last year and it was nice to finally complete some of the things we’d been putting off. So I’m aiming for the same this year! Our list is quite small but includes jobs such as modifying the electric cables in the basement, installing outdoor lighting, fitting a radiator in the hall, etc.
As you can see, there’s still plenty to do in our house, and the DIY and renovating certainly won’t be taking any breaks in 2023. I’m forever behind with updating the blog, but you can keep up with some of our real-time renovations over on my Instagram here.
