How to Prepare your Home for Guests This Christmas (+ a Giveaway!)

December 1, 2015 - No Comments - 3 min read
We’ve entered into December! It’s official, the countdown has begun, the lists have been made and the pressure has been piled on – all in preparation for that one perfect festive day.
With so much to do, time certainly isn’t on our side and I don’t know about you, but I have way too much to do, without worrying about giving the guest bedroom a whole new makeover this Christmas. That being said, I would still want guests to feel comfortable and at home during their stay, so here’s some quick solutions to make sure your guests have the best stay this Christmas.

Refresh the Bathroom/En-Suite

Give the bathroom a quick refresh this Christmas without the hassle. Why not swap the existing shower curtain for something fresh, new and more themed. We all know you haven’t cleaned the old one in months and the mildew is showing. Save the deep clean for January (it takes far too long!) and opt for something affordable, festive and much less time-consuming. This Christmas inspired shower curtain by Croydex would be perfect this Christmas time!
For maximum bathroom comfort, pop some towels into the tumble dryer to give them that plump soft hotel-finish. Make sure to keep a few ‘stand-by’ toothbrushes as well, just in case any guests for forget to bring them – which actually happens more than you might think!

Inject Fresh Scents

If your guest room doesn’t get much use throughout the rest of the year, it can develop a bit of an un-lived ‘stale’ smell. Not very welcoming! Make sure to change the bedding with clean sheets (even if the current ones haven’t been used!) and place little scent bags  like these inside the wardrobe and drawers to stop your guests clothes from inheriting any bad smells.
I also recommend adding some scented candles (the yankee christmas collection is uh-mazing) for some extra festive scents, which never fail bring anyone into the Christmas spirit!

Clear Clutter and Stock Supplies

Make sure your guest bedroom is clear of everything your guests don’t need. Clear any unnecessary paperwork, (we all know these end up in spare bedrooms!) remove the treadmill that hasn’t seen any action since last January and generally make sure the room is an uncluttered space with room to move.
I think it’s also a great idea to make sure the room is well stocked with anything they might need. Pop some extra throws in the wardrobe, add some paper, pens and spare chargers in the bedside table and make sure the room has a mirror to get ready with. This one’s especially important if you only have the one bathroom, you don’t want any morning fights for the bathroom mirror!

Add Some Fresh Flowers

For a truly luxury stay, pick up some fresh flowers and bring a bit of the outside in. These christmas ones would look incredible, but for a cheaper solution, you might find some ready for picking in the garden, or you can find smaller cheaper bunches at your local market or supermarket. A tiny price that makes a huge difference to both the room and your guests! Flowers after all, brighten up everyones day.

Accessorise from Around the House

Everyone loves a beautifully decorated room, but with lack of time (and money!) you need not bring the painters and curtain tailors in… My top tip here, is to just take statement pieces from around the home that you can put into the guest bedroom to ‘spruce’ it up and give it that warm homely feeling. Perhaps prop a print up on the dresser, or put some fairy lights into a glass vase. Maybe even steal the odd cushion from the downstairs couch. No need to go wild or crazy, just add a bit of character and personality into the room and your guests will have a thoroughly warm and welcoming stay this Christmas.
