First House: Kitchen Tour

May 9, 2014 - No Comments - 2 min read

Welcome to my kitchen, this is probably my favourite room of the house, and is also the room we improved and changed the most. It’s nothing too fancy but it was pretty darn cheap and it does the job. Biggest save – we have no wall cabinets. BUT it makes the room appear so much bigger, and let’s face it.. in a kitchen and house this size, you really don’t need that much storage space. Plus it encourages you to not over-stock on food. A pet hate of mine.

I love having glassware on show, it makes this wall much more of a feature and fancy-looking. Plus I love having the Cookie Monster on display. He’s awesome. And it helps to add a splash of colour, and I do like colour. Plus I love our green cooker! This was £15 from eBay, madness!

Again, more colour in the blind. We chose to use an off-cut of the worktop as the window sill as well which I love. The random bowl on the left is a key bowl.. but it ends up being full of lots of random bits that have no where to live.

So the doorway on the left leads up the stairs. When we moved in there was actually a door here, but it seemed pretty pointless, and as there’s a window there too, not having a door brings more light into both the kitchen and stairway. And the one on the right is the back door to the garden/yard.

We keep the fridge in the cubbyhole, there’s just enough room for it open, but I suppose ideally you wouldn’t have a dogs crate in that space. This is also where Todd sleeps at night-time and where we leave him when we leave the house. Purely because he gets stressed alone and would wreck the house. I made a feature of this wall by making it into an Instagram wall. I would have added more photos, but as we’re moving soon (although ‘soon’ has been the last 7 months!) I didn’t bother.

Finally – the half wall that separates the kitchen and living room, we have made into a breakfast bar. This is really handy because as you can see – there is literally no room for a table or desk! The cake-stand is usually full of home-made breakfast bars. But again, with moving soon I was trying not to over-stock cupboards. The stools cost £5 from eBay too and I added the cushions and fabric myself. They’re actually really wobbly to sit on, and I’m not a fan of the Z-design.. So they’re staying with the house when we move.

So there we are. Small but cute. I think I’ll actually miss this room.
